During Devaki and Vasudeva's wedding rituals, Kansa was warned by the fortune tellers that their son would kill him. Hearing this, Kansa imprisoned the couple and killed every child that was born to them.

But when Krisna was born, Vasudeva secretly arranged for the baby to be transported and replaced it with another baby (Krisna's adopted mother's daughter, Yashoda).

When the evil Kansa tries to kill this substituted baby, she turns into the goddess Adi Parashakti and warns her that her death has come and nothing can change her fate.

Meanwhile, the newborn Krisna was taken across the Yamuna river, where he was rescued and nurtured by Nanda and his wife Yashoda, in an area called Gokul.

The birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated as Krisnashtami or Janmashtami.
